For my Vertibird remake project a few years ago, I required a slip ring to transfer electricity from the stationary base to the spinning device that had a motor. My solution was to use a stereo phono jack and plug. It has 3 conductors and once connected together, they spin freely but keep tension so they don't come apart. No audio... Only DC amps! Abusive to say the least!
A slip ring is an electromechanical device that allows the transmission of power and electrical signals from a stationary to a rotating structure. A slip ring can be used in any electromechanical system that requires rotation while transmitting power or signals. It can improve mechanical performance, simplify system operation and eliminate damage-prone wires dangling from movable joints. Wikipedia
I wasn't expecting that! Simple and ingenious!
